Four Irish Language Broadcast Fund projects nominated for 2020 Oireachtas Communications Awards

The Oireachtas today announced the shortlist for the Oireachtas Communications Awards 2020. Northern Ireland Screen is delighted to see that four projects supported by its Irish Language Broadcast Fund are among the list of nominees; Nazi Sa Ghaeltacht, Croí Briste, The Irish Houses- Scéal Phobal Bhóthar Seoighe and Na Gael Marys. These annual awards are a recognition of excellence in quality and creativity in the Irish language communications sector.
There are twelve categories, focused on both traditional and online media, this year. Both Macha Media’s Nazi Sa Ghaeltacht and Clean Slate Productions’ Croí Briste have been nominated in the film/TV programme of the year category. Clean Slate TV’s The Irish Houses- Scéal Phobal Bhóthar Seoighe has been nominated for TV series of the year and DoubleBand Films’ Na Gael Marys is up for Young Stars of the year. As in previous years, the Young Star of the Year will be chosen by public vote. Public voting will begin on Wednesday, 9th September.
The winner of the Oireachtas Communications Awards will be announced on Tuesday, 20th October 2020. Arrangements for the ceremony will be announced closer to the event.

This shortlist is an insight into the content and people of the Irish language media that have made an impact on the public over the past year and we thank them for warmly accompanying us through the uncertainty and gloom of the pandemic, COVID-19, with its provision of information and entertainment.”

D’fhógair an tOireachtas gearrliosta inniú do Ghradam Chumarsáide an Oireachtais 2020. Tá lúchair ar Northern Ireland Screen go bhfuil ceithre thógra a fuair tacaíocht ón Chiste Craoltóireachta Gaeilge ainmníthe sa liosta seo; Nazi Sa Ghaeltacht, Croí Briste, The Irish Houses-Scéal Phobal Bhóthar Seoighe agus Na Gael Marys. Aitheantas ar scoth caighdeáin, cáilíochta agus cruthaitheachta in earnáil na cumarsáide Gaeilge is ea na gradaim bhliantúla seo.
Dhá chatagóir déag dírithe ar mheáin thraidisiúnta agus ar mheáin ar líne araon, atá i gceist i mbliana. Fuair Nazi Sa Ghaeltacht ó Macha Media agus Croí Briste ó Clean Slate Productions ainmniúchán sa chatagóir Scannán/Clár Teilifíse na Bliana. Fuair The Irish Houses- Scéal Phobal Bhóthar Seoighe arís le Clean Slate Productions ainmniúchán sa chatagóir Sraith Teilifíse na Bliana agus fuair na cailíní ó Na Gael Marys, leiriúcháin de chuid DoubleBand Films ainmniúchán sa chatagóir Réalta Óg na Bliana.
Amhail blianta eile, is ar bhonn vóta poiblí a roghnófar Réalta Óg na Bliana. Cuirfear tús leis an vótáil phoiblí Dé Céadaoin, 9 Meán Fómhair 2020. Fógrófar buaiteoir Bhuaic-Ghradam Cumarsáide an Oireachtais Dé Máirt, 20 Deireadh Fómhair 2020.
“Tréaslaím ó chroí le gach duine atá ar ghearrliosta na bliana seo,” a dúirt Máirín Nic Dhonnchadha, Leas-Stiúrthóir an Oireachtais. “Is léir go bhfuil an soláthar atá á dhéanamh ag na meáin Ghaeilge ar chaighdeán chomh saibhir, chomh gairmiúil agus chomh healaíonta leis an ábhar is fearr atá á chur ar fáil i mórtheangacha na cruinne. Is léargas é an gearrliosta seo ar ábhar agus ar dhaoine sna meáin Ghaeilge a chuaigh i bhfeidhm ar an bpobal le bliain anuas agus gabhaimid buíochas leo as muid a thionlacan go croíúil trí éiginnteacht agus trí ghruaim na paindéime, COVID-19, lena soláthar faisnéise agus siamsaíochta.”
