TG4 continues its long established support of the Galway Film Fleadh and welcomes the strong programme for the Film Fleadh for 2020. TG4 will present a number of funded films at this year’s online festival as well as a short form content panel. During this panel details will also be announced of a new commissioning round for digital first short-form content and the development of new talent support by TG4, the BAI, Northern Ireland Screen’s Irish Language Broadcast Fund and Údarás na Gaeltachta and in association with Gréasán na Meán.
The panel, “Short Form Content for a New Generation” is on Friday 10th July at 12pm and advance registration is required via the Film Fleadh website. This panel will discuss how to create innovative, exciting, high quality digital content that resonates with younger audiences while developing new talent in front and behind the camera. Panelists will include: Louise Thornton, Digital, Social and Youth Commissioning Executive with BBC Scotland; Rhodri ap Dyfrid, Online Content Commissioner with S4C; Maeve McLoughlin, Youth Executive BBC Three/BBC NI/Northern Ireland Screen and Éamonn McManus of TG Lurgan & Moose. Two TG4 commissioned programmes will feature on this year’s Galway Film Fleadh Programme. The award winning CINE4 feature, Arracht will close the Film Fleadh programme on Sunday 12th July. This feature film written and directed by Tom Sullivan and produced by Cúán Mac Conghail for Macalla was funded through Cine4 (TG4, Screen Ireland, and the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland). The Tribe of Gods on Saturday July 11th is the International version of a Loic Jourdain directed feature documentary produced for TG4. It tells the story of Patsy Dan Rodgers, the last king of Tory Island, and the island community’s efforts to secure their rights and unique way of lives.
TG4 is pleased to sponsor the Academy Award qualifying category of Best Short Documentary Film Award for 2020. TG4 recognises the role of Short Film as an exciting and innovative creative format with a huge potential to cultivate and grow new talent in the industry and we are pleased to support this important category.
